Support
Questions, answered.
Short answers to the things students and parents ask most. If yours isn't here, email support@trymercurius.com and a real person will reply.
The basics
- Is it free? Yes. Mercurius AI is free on the App Store, with no ads. It runs on iPhone with iOS 17 or later.
- Who is it for? Is there an age limit? Mercurius is built for teens aged 13 to 18. If you're under 13, you may not use it. Starting with app version 2.3, the app asks how old you are the first time you open it, and if you pick an age under 13 it shows a stop screen instead of the tutor, with no way to go back and pick again. Your device remembers that stop for 7 days, but it keeps only when the stop happened, never your age. Your age itself is never saved or sent to us. If that was a mistake, ask a teacher or parent. There are no accounts, so you never enter a name or email.
- Does it work offline? No. Every reply is generated on our server, so Mercurius needs an internet connection.
- Will it send me notifications? Only if you turn them on. From app 2.3 there are two reminders, both off until you switch them on: weekly nudges (Wednesday at 7 PM and Sunday at 6 PM) and a daily streak reminder that only runs while you have a streak going. Earlier versions have one optional daily reminder at a time you pick. Either way you change them under Progress (tap the flame in the chat header). Your phone schedules them itself; nothing about them is sent to us.
Your data
- What does Mercurius send to the AI? Every chat message you send, and every photo you attach, goes to our server (hosted on Railway, in the US) and is forwarded to Anthropic's Claude API, which writes the reply. Those two companies are the only ones that process what you write. Messages are kept on our server for 90 days and photos for 24 hours. The list of lessons you've finished is saved on our server under your session ID; from app 2.3 that lets your path survive a reinstall. Nothing is sold, there are no ads, and there are no third-party analytics or advertising trackers in the app. The full picture is in the Privacy Policy.
- Can I delete my data? Yes, three ways. In the app (2.3 and later), open Settings and tap "Delete my data & start over". That erases everything on our server tied to your session, including your lesson checklist, and gives you a fresh start. Settings → Privacy choices → Withdraw consent does the same and shows the first-launch agreement again. Or email privacy@trymercurius.com with the session ID shown in Settings, and we'll delete it within 7 days. Deleting the app on its own does not delete what's on the server.
When something goes wrong
- Why did it say it's paused, or that I hit a daily limit? Mercurius is free, but every reply costs us money to generate. So there are three limits: a daily limit for each student, a daily limit for each network (a whole school's Wi-Fi counts as one), and a total spending cap across everyone. When one is reached, the app shows the message our server sends. Nothing is wrong with your phone and you didn't break anything — try again later, or tomorrow for a daily limit.
- How do I report a bad answer? Long-press the reply and pick a reason. The reply, along with the message you sent right before it, is saved for the developer to review, and the developer gets a notification. Reports are how we find and fix the tutor's mistakes.
- I found a bug, or I want a feature. Email support@trymercurius.com. For bugs, say what you tapped, what you expected, and what happened instead — plus your iPhone model and iOS version if you know them. Please don't include anything personal.
- What if I'm going through something serious? Mercurius is a tutor, not a counselor, doctor, or lawyer. If you're in crisis, talk to a real person: in the US, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), or text HOME to 741741.
